Changelog
What is in each version of Downstage — and, while it is in beta, what is not there yet.
Downstage 0.9.0 · updated 13 Oct 20260.9.0 — beta
October 2026. The first version to leave our own rehearsal room.
On stage
- Songs from locators, in arrangement order or in a setlist.
- Quantised jumps to any song: tap, it turns amber, Live jumps on the bar line.
- Sections, from
>locators or a SECTIONS track, with notes in{braces}. - Repeat and Skip to for the section you are in, and a timeline of the song.
- Loop a section until you release it, using Live's own arrangement loop.
- Runs on or stops after for each song, with a clean stop into a
STOPlocator. - Stop needs a hold while playing; Resume carries on from where you stopped.
- Lock, per device, against stray taps.
- Click and cues level and mute from the iPad.
- A set clock, and song lengths worked out from each song's own tempo.
Screens
- One layout for an iPad, and reshaped ones for Split View at two-thirds, half and a third, and for an iPad held upright.
- A view-only band view for everybody else's phones.
http://downstage.local, so there is no address to remember.
Backstage
- Setlists: any number per Live set, drag to reorder, a note per song, a slot length.
- Section locators: add a locator for every section, a song at a time or all at once.
- Passcode, a list of connected devices, a latency test and spelled-out warnings.
- One-button install of the Live connector.
- A menu-bar icon with Live's status and the addresses for the iPad.
Not there yet
We would rather you knew.
- Windows. Mac only for now.
- A signed installer. macOS asks you to press Open Anyway the first time.
- A native iPad app. The controller is a web page, which is why it cannot keep the screen awake or use a MIDI pedal.
- Cancelling an armed jump. Live cannot be asked to forget one; ask for a different jump instead.
- Looping a whole song, and loops that repeat a set number of times.
- A wider mixer. Click and cues only.
- Lyrics and chords. Use your charts app beside it, in Split View.
- MIDI control of Downstage from a pedal or controller.
- Automatic updates. New builds are installed by hand.
