Locator cheat sheet

Every name Downstage understands in your Live set, on one page.

Downstage is set up entirely by how you name things in Live. This is all of it.

Locators

Name	What it is	More
Anything else	A song, named exactly as the locator is.	Songs
`> Chorus`	A section of the song it sits in. Any number of `>` works.	Sections
`> Chorus {big one}`	A section with a note shown beside it.	Notes
`SONG END`	Where the song before it finishes. Put it on a bar line.	Song end
`STOP`	Somewhere silent to stop into: a few empty bars.	Stop

SONG END and STOP are matched whatever the capitals.

Tracks

A track whose name contains the word…	…is used for	More
`SECTIONS`	Section clips. Each clip's name is a section; only where it starts matters.	Sections
`CLICK` or `CLICKS`	The click fader on the iPad.	Click and cues
`CUE`, `CUES`, `GUIDE` or `GUIDES`	The cues fader on the iPad.	Click and cues

Whole words only, in any capitals: Guide Vox and Metronome +CLICK match; Clicker Loop does not. For click and cues, the first matching track counting down the list wins — so a group is used ahead of the tracks inside it.

Clips on the SECTIONS track

Clip name	What it is
`Verse 1`	A section called Verse 1, starting where the clip starts.
`Instrumental {acoustic gtr only}`	The same, with a note.

Settings in Live

Launch quantisation (beside the metronome)	1 Bar	Every jump waits for it. None makes jumps instant and out of time.
Control Surface (Settings › Link, Tempo & MIDI)	Downstage	Connects Downstage to Live. Input and Output stay on None.

Coming from another setlist tool

These are the conventions several setlist tools for Live share, and that is on purpose. If your set already has a SECTIONS track, SONG END markers, > section locators, {notes} in names, or a track called Click, Downstage reads them as they are. Most sets need nothing renamed.

Names Downstage does not use are left alone and do no harm. A locator it does not recognise is simply treated as a song.
